The inaugural meeting of the HMS OCEAN Association took place on 18 th July 1987, at the Nautical Club, Birmingham, and was attended by nine members with apologies for absence from eleven others. Since then, the Association has grown considerably, and today there are almost 300 ex-OCEAN’s on the books, from all commissions. Members come from all parts of the UK, as well as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, Canada,Spain and Belgium.

Presentation to ship by Ocean Association

The Association continues to holds a lunch-time meeting on the last saturday in February at the Nautical Club, Birmingham and an annual reunion dinner held at various venues throughout the UK. These venues have included Barrow-in-Furness (including visits to the new OCEAN while she was under construction), Chatham, Portsmouth, Liverpool, and Llandudno.

Strong links between the Association and the current ship have enabled members to enjoy ship-visits. The Association was represented at the naming and the commissioning ceremonies, and members have on occasion been privileged to take passage aboard.

Membership of the HMS OCEAN Association is open to all who have served aboard the former and current ships of that name, with associate membership being extended to wives and immediate family members. For further information, send your details on the attached form or email Membership
